Moravian Academy students face many challenges: a demanding academic program, a variety of extracurricular activities, and a shortage of time in which to fit all of that. To succeed in the classroom and find time for everything else, both in high school and in college, our students need to develop strong, confident reading skills.
For these reasons, we are again pleased to offer an intensive two-day program in Advanced Reading for our students. The course will be taught by Sheffield Communications, which specializes in helping students and professionals develop their communication and learning skills. Advanced Reading has been taught for a number of years at Moravian Academy, with excellent results. Our students have been most enthusiastic about their accomplishments and heightened confidence in their ability to handle assignments.
Advanced Reading is designed for capable students who want to read faster with better understanding. It is not remedial. The program is highly individualized and allows students to progress at their own rate. Most students can expect to double their reading speed while improving comprehension. The program also explores techniques for improving memory and concentration.
We are making Advanced Reading available to all ninth- through twelfth-graders on Saturday and Sunday, August 18-19. The cost of the two-day program is $250. Classes will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and students must bring their lunches.
Based on this program’s success in helping our students, please consider enrolling your daughter or son in Advanced Reading. Once you have decided to enroll, please return this form as soon as possible, and no later than August 4. A limited number of spaces are available, and we will enroll students on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone with questions about the program should call Sheffield Communications at (804) 438-5272.
