The Moravian Academy Quiz Bowl team participated in the National Academic Quiz Tournaments’ (NAQT) small school tournament held May 3-5 in Chicago.
Alex Adams ’20, Angela Chen ’21, Rhea Malhotra ’20, and Carson Danaher ’19 competed as the “A Team” and finished with a win-loss record of 5-5, narrowly missing a chance at the championship bracket in their final match. Alex and Angela both placed among the top 100 individual students at the tournament. Grace Sanborn ’21, Emily Alchaer ’21, Dedee Hoffman ’21, Samit Mohapatra ’22, and Divik Verma ’22 competed on the “B Team” and finished with a record of 4-6, which was impressive considering they entered the tournament as a standby team and ended up placing ahead of about a dozen teams who qualified independently for nationals.
During the trip, students also had a chance to see some sights in Chicago, including Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, the “Bean” in Millennium Park, and the Adler Planetarium. Some students also went on a tour of the University of Chicago, and we made sure to pick up some authentic Chicago deep-dish pizza for dinner after a long day of competition.
