Professional development is integral to our institution. Teachers are learners, just as our students are learners. This week, the Lower School faculty and staff engaged in additional training with an instructor, Roxanne Hable, from Developmental Designs. We recognize that student success relies on a healthy blend of social and academic learning. Conversely, teaching and learning are weakened by a lack of inclusion and student empathy.
During Roxanne’s visit, she modeled lessons, observed classrooms and ended with a faculty meeting to reflect on current practices, highlighting our peaks and surface any valleys of implementation. She was delighted to see so many of the goals from the summer session come to fruition.
Successes include a Lower School Student Social Contract, First Community Circles, Common Language like “Show Five” and Redirection tools including the Quiet Place. We are committed to continuing our work on attending to implicit bias and personalized learning as well! Student engagement continues to grow as Moravian’s faculty and staff build upon best practices and methods in everything they do.
