When you visit our Lower School, you will now see our faculty and staff raising their hand and saying “Show Five” or “Dame Cinco” to get the students’ attention. When a faculty or staff raises their hand and says a version of these two words, you will see a wave of hands go up as every student looks up.
This Developmental Design (DD) practice is one that our entire Lower School has now adopted as a common signal. This signal is intended to show the following five behaviors:
(1) Voices Off;
(2) Eyes on Speaker;
and (5) Body Still.
Through this unified approach we are excited to further provide equitable teaching practices across grades. Our Lower School students will be consistently modeling for our Middle and Upper School students as we continue to push DD up the divisions. In the meantime, when you find yourself with several of our Lower school students, give “Show Five” or “Dame Cinco” a try!
