An educational exchange program between Moravian Academy’s Upper School and “Faces and Our Cultures” (FACES) in Guatemala City was established in the 2013-2014 school year. Due to its success, the Global Language Department expanded the program the following year to include a unilateral exchange with our Middle School students as hosts. It has been a very positive experience for the Middle School and the Moravian Academy community ever since.
Next school year, we will again welcome Guatemalan students to campus through the program. These young participants spend nearly two months living with a host family while attending classes and participating in extracurricular activities at school. The program has led to wonderful friendships and has provided our students and our Guatemalan guests with valuable cultural experiences. This fall, our young cultural ambassadors will arrive October 20th, stay with their host families and join our school community for the following 8 weeks, and depart December 15th.
If you are interested in hosting a student and participating in this life-enriching experience, you can contact Mrs. Faith Fraizer at the Middle School and Mrs. Kathleen Weems at the Upper School. In addition, Sandy Cardona, FACES General Coordinator and founder, can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. This opportunity is available for families of Middle School students currently in Grade 7 (those entering Grade 8 in the 2019-2020 school year) and Upper School students currently in Grades 9-11 (those entering Grade 10-12 in the 2019-2020 school year).
We encourage those interested to attend an informational meeting on Monday, March 4th at 12:00 pm in the Athletic Wellness Center (Classroom #1) on the Merle-Smith Campus. We hope to see you there!
