If you ask a second grader about stained glass this week, chances are they will tell you a lot more than they would have last week, thanks to special visitor Mr. Bob Wolfenden. Mr. Wolfenden is a local stained glass artist that will be working with the second-grade students and Auction Committee volunteers to create a one-of-a-kind stained glass panel.
This panel will be up for bid at the Moravian Academy Auction on April 6th. The students learned all about color, design, shapes, and math and how putting them together can create a true masterpiece. Each second grader will pick a color and shape that represents them for the piece. They will work with their fellow classmates to place pieces in their assigned space.
Mr. Wolfenden will be back a few more times to go over the layout with the students and then to inform them of his progress on their design. Mr. Wolfenden even left two panels of his own in their classrooms for inspiration. The students were very excited to learn more about this craft and collaborate with Mr. Wolfenden. Before Mr. Wolfenden left, he informed the students that all of his pieces contain one piece of glass that is at least 150 years old. Needless to say, our curious 2nd graders were all searching for this special piece!
Don’t miss your chance to bid on this one-of-a-kind piece on April 6th! For more information about Moravian Academy’s Totally Awesome Auction…80’s, please visit www.moravianacademy.org/auction.
