Students in kindergarten and first grade learn a lot about world geography and cultures in the last trimester of the school year. Their teachers immerse them in songs, stories, food, and festivities from every continent! Additionally, the classroom experiences involve a wide range of people from our Moravian community sharing their heritage or travels. For example, in kindergarten, I was a guest who talked about my travels through Australia and scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef. Other countries highlighted by parents have included South Korea, Austria, Greece, Germany, India, Italy, Scotland, Ukraine, China, Poland, Jamaica, Japan, Italy, Spain, and Ireland.
First grade continues to learn about the vast continent of Africa. So far, they have explored the countries of Tanzania and Kenya. Dr. Baki came to visit and shared his experiences in these countries, including hiking with his son to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. We will continue studies of the rainforest, deserts and people and animals who inhabit these places.
