This week, former Moravian Academy Lower School Director Mrs. Ella Jane Kunkle shared her experiences growing up in the 1940s to students in Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Mrs. Kunkle brought in memorable toys, books, and games that were part of her childhood. Despite growing up in a different era than Mrs. Kunkle, students found familiarity in some of her items, including a wagon, Parcheesi, marbles, and Pick-Up-Sticks, as they still play with those things today.
After her presentation, Mrs. Kunkle answered student questions, such as “How fast did your sled go?” and “Who were your best friends?,” and read our students a picture book entitled “Silver Packages: An Appalachian Christmas Story.”
As a bonus, first-grader Ella (Jane) R. ’30 shared a special moment with Mrs. Kunkle, as they share the same first and middle name.
Thank you, Mrs. Kunkle, for spending time with us!
