On Tuesday, October 16th, Dr. Elizabeth Zhe and Mrs. Carissa Casey visited the Parent Association meeting to facilitate a session on “Building Resiliency and Protective Factors.” This interactive session offered attendees an opportunity to reflect on resiliency factors of their own and of their children through a Developmental Designs approach.
There were parallels drawn to show how Developmental Designs practices can be used in a classroom to create connections that ultimately help build resiliency. One of the resources provided was from Nan Henderson, M.S.W., who developed the “Resiliency Quiz.”
Using this tool, families were encouraged to engage in conversations with their children about how to maintain and create more resiliency factors. To further support those conversations, resources from Developmental Assets were shared to see the external and internal behavioral patterns across various developmental stages. This session was a great start to the many conversations we hope to have as a community. Thank you to all of those who attended this session!
