For more than 25 years, the Middle School handbell groups have extended their community service efforts by scheduling a bell tour day following our annual Vespers services, and this year was no exception.
On the morning of Tuesday, December 11th, the 7th and 8th Grade Handbell Choirs departed school for our first program at Gracedale Nursing Home in Nazareth. Upon completing our presentation there, our next stop was the Senior Center of Moravian House, a high-rise and activity center for seniors in the Lehigh Valley. Afterward, we continued to the Moravian Village of Bethlehem to repeat our program once again.
The groups then returned to the Middle School in the afternoon to pick up the 6th Grade Handbell Choir. Together, we traveled to the main floor of the Outlets at Sands Bethlehem, where we played our final program.
During the tour, our students were phenomenal. They unloaded and loaded all of the equipment and facilitate setup at each stop. At both Gracedale Nursing Home and Senior Center of Moravian House, the students personally went around to each room of the residents, inviting them to our program, and assisted by pushing a wheelchair or offering an arm. I wish you all could have seen them spring into action and serve these people in need.
Our handbell groups worked hard for the past few months to make this event a success. Needless to say, each stop made their appreciation of our efforts well known. The holidays were brightened for many that don’t necessarily have much brightness in their lives.
Thank you to the Moravian Academy Middle School community – especially parents and teachers – for your support of this wonderful event!
